There are many courses related to improving your response to victims of crime and your investigation skills. Courses are added throughout the year. The list below represents only a few of the available courses in this curriculum.

Preventing Bias in Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Response: In cases of sexual assault and domestic violence addressing certain biases is critical because you, as an officer, will most likely make the initial contact with the victim. In this course, you will learn about bias and stereotyping as it applies and affects the police response to domestic violence and sexual assaults.

Responding to Victims of Trauma: This course provides officers with information to help and assist victims of trauma. Understanding the physical and mental reactions of those that have recently experienced a trauma - immediately after the trauma, in the weeks following a trauma, and more than 30 days after the trauma - will help you communicate with and provide help to victims of crime.

Investigating Domestic Violence: Learn how law enforcement officers can play a crucial role in helping victims, apprehending abusers, stopping the violence, and saving lives.

Conviction Integrity: Everyone wants to see the right person brought to justice, and no one wants to be part of a failed effort that sends the wrong person to prison. We must be aware of and follow practices to sustain the integrity of our convictions and our burden of proof. This course explores the causes of overturned convictions, the cultural challenges faced by law enforcement, and investigative techniques we can practice to support conviction integrity and build public confidence.

Responding to Veterans in Crisis: To aid the law enforcement community, the authors of this curriculum intend to offer some specific insights and suggestions about dealing with recent combat Veterans whose distress may lead to crisis situations and police interventions.

Investigating Sexual Assault: Responding to crimes of sexual violence is one of the most difficult situations you face in your duty as a police officer. This course prepares you for the wide variety of responsibilities including listening carefully to the victim and assisting in gathering information and evidence needed to make an arrest when dealing with sexual assault.

Investigating Stalking: Domestic Violence cases are one of the most dangerous situations for both the victim and you as a responding or investigating officer. Intimate stalking is one of the most frequent types of stalking you will encounter during your investigations. This course provides information on what the stalkers use to create uncertainty, instill fear, and disrupt the lives of their victims.

Investigating Strangulation: Studies have shown that almost half of all domestic violence homicide victims had experienced at least one episode of attempted strangulation prior to a lethal or near lethal violent incident. This course enhances your response to calls involving strangulation by explaining the dangers of strangulation, identifying the various signs and symptoms of strangulation and identifying and implementing actions to help strangulation victims.

Investigating Human Trafficking: Human trafficking is a crime against an individual in which the victim is used as a physical commodity to earn a profit for the trafficker. This course is designed to help increase our awareness and understanding of Human Trafficking by exploring the types of human trafficking, indicators of victims and traffickers, steps for assessing the crime scene and tactics for communicating with the victim.

PAVTN.net offers training for police officers on different programs and systems used in law enforcement. You'll find training on booking and fingerprinting, PA SAVIN, and the Protection from Abuse Database (PFAD) to name a few.
